While I personally believe that I have a black belt in packing for a trip, this is a slightly different adventure compared to my usual suitcase or backpack requirements. Luckily, we’ve been car camping for a while now, and have some experience with bringing a household along. The fabulous internet also has lists for RV road tripping available to download, so we double-checked ours for missing items and it now looks like it is pretty complete. I’ve attached it below, so feel free to borrow/adapt it for your purposes.
A few comments on what made the “cut”:
- We have a rental RV, and will not make any repairs to it, so the tools we have are mostly the same we bring camping.
- I love cooking, but will keep it simple in the onboard kitchen–mostly prepping fresh food to put on a grill/BBQ. However, while we are curious about the local cuisines and will sample along the way, we are going to make every breakfast and most lunches in the RV kitchen, so the gear/food is skewed toward those meals.
- We are on the road for 7 weeks, which means we will stock up on food and do laundry about once a week. All of our supplies take that into account, with the exception of water & beverages, which we will replenish more often.
- Again, we are on the road for 7 weeks, so some of our “stuff to do” is a bit more extensive than what would be needed for a week or two (look at the book, movie, and music lists if you don’t believe me). Also, we all play music, so the instruments are a must 🙂
- A few small luxuries can go a long way: a table cloth for the picnic tables (a nice sturdy one that can be spread over a concrete abomination and creates instant “let’s eat” appeal); earplugs (noisy neighbors? snoring children? HA! I’m going to sleep through it all!); ENO Hammock (instant lounger); electronic toys & gadgets (I’ve been told we live in the 21st century – and we are already bringing laptops to blog…) Packing list
