Getting into the Rockies (old and new favorites)

Leaving Denver wasn’t easy – we really enjoyed our unusual hotel and its late check out – but fun and adventures awaited us down the road. We started with a classic: Minigolf (obviously no Bares road trip is complete without). We had socially distanced and properly disinfected fun at Adventure golf.

Our next stop was Boulder, where Bill had heard about a great tea house. We arrived just in time for lunch – again in a very nicely rearranged interior space with less diners and masked staff. That helped put us at ease and made it even easier to enjoy fabulous food & beverages. Bill was truly adventurous with Cheese tea and Tajik Plov – both really delicious.

From here it was just a hop, skip, and a jump to Estes Park—our home base for exploring Rocky Mountain National Park. We picked a Koa campsite (most NP campsites were booked or only available one night), which turned out to be great because there was one more fun activity available to us: go karts !! Arthur turned out to be our resident lead foot and raced through the course. As for me, I went with the old adage “Ich bin im Urlaub, nicht auf der Flucht” and this opted for a more leisurely ride taking in the amazing mountain vistas on all sides.
