For a moment there I had a deja vu when I started thinking about this blog post: volcanoes, eruptions, lava flow and big rocks – I distinctly remember writing about them already. Ah, yes, in my LAST blog post about Lassen Volcanic NP. In the 5 days since then we have made it along theContinueContinue reading “Day 29 – Craters (the sequel)”

Day 28 – The Longest Drive
We began “The Drive” from Crater Lake at 7:30am and finished at the Craters of the Moon KOA in Idaho at 7:30pm (with a 1-hour time change), thus opening and closing the longest drive of the trip with craters. The motion sickness and weariness that come with this kind of drive were amplified, in a way,ContinueContinue reading “Day 28 – The Longest Drive”
Day 27 – Crater Lake

Day 26 – Mt. Shasta & Crater Lake pt 1
Today day we went to mt. Shasta and crater lake. Mt. Shasta is supposed to have the cleanest ground water of the region. The headwaters of the Sacramento River start here and you can fill your water bottle here. Then we went to Crater Lake. Day 25 – Lassen Volcanic
After extending our stay in Tahoe by a day, we finally hit the road again – to Lassen Volcanic National Park. The drive took us once more through Nevada and past some strange sights: a shoe tree in the middle of nowhere, a completely white lake (aptly named “White Lake”), a slightly yellowish lake calledContinueContinue reading “Day 25 – Lassen Volcanic”
Day 24 – Tahoe part 2
We had a leisurely day today that involved a) no hiking and b) no driving. We’ve only had a few days like this since we left Asheville. They’re a nice recharge. Today’s reset involved renting a boat and doing some lake sightseeing from the water. We went for the cheapest option, which we regretted prettyContinueContinue reading “Day 24 – Tahoe part 2”

Day 21 – Yosemite (part 1)
Today was a big day. We have been on the road for three weeks, have driven 4000 miles, and have seen 11 national parks. It’s been amazing (and challenging, and stunning, and so much more), and yet with Yosemite we reached a completely different kind of milestone. As one of the oldest national parks itContinueContinue reading “Day 21 – Yosemite (part 1)”
Day 20 – Mariposa
Leo injured his shoulder and elbow yesterday after flipping his bike while riding at our campground in King’s Canyon. He’s ok but we thought we’d take it easy today—he was supposed to post about our otherwise awesome day in King’s Canyon but he’s off the hook until he feels ready. We saddled up this morningContinueContinue reading “Day 20 – Mariposa”
